Sister Pam Hodgson

Sister Pam Hodgson made her 1st Profession on June 15, 2003.  Pam is a Merrill, WI, native, daughter of the late Chester and Lavergne Hodgson.  She attended St. Francis Xavier Elementary School, Merrill, and is a 1968 graduate of Our Lady of the Holy Cross High School, Merrill.  She received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point.

For 27 years Pam was a second grade teacher at St. Francis School in Merrill.  Teaching has truly been a joyful occupation for her.  Today, Pam is a third grade teacher at St. Benedict the Moore School in New Orleans, Louisiana.  St. Benedict's is a private school established to educate the poorest of the poor, to give them a ticket out of poverty.

Sister Pam will make her final vows on June 29.  She said after experiencing much of her life as a lay person she knew that when she finally answered God's call and decided to enter the Holy Cross Sisters that it was what she had been looking for in her life.  Sister Pam said, "After I made that decision I felt a peacefulness overcome me.  At the time, I personally considered my first profession of vows as a life commitment to live the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience.  That feeling has not changed as I prepare for my official final vows as a Sister of Mercy of the Holy Cross.  I am definitely ready for that lifetime commitment."

Sister Pam loves music and is a member of the church choir, adding she is the only white face in an all black choir.  She is also involved with the school bell choir.  Sister Pam continues to reach out to Katrina victims along with Sister Linda Songy who she shares an apartment with her.
