Sister Kathy Wiesneski
She was born Kathy Ann on June 23, 1952, in Merrill, Wisconsin, to Stanley and Rosemary Wiesneski. She entered Holy Cross Convent on January 29, 1982, and celebrated her First Profession on July 28, 1985.
Sister was drawn to the Holy Cross Sisters because of their commitment to the poor and their openness to whatever God is calling each of them to do. She was asked when looking back over the past 25 years, what gives her special satisfaction. “The years I have spent as a Campus Minister and going to Lake Providence, Louisiana, with the Good Neighboring Program would be right up there. To be able to challenge young people to go beyond. To see the “Aha” moment when they get it; they get that we are all God’s children and all people deserve a chance,” Sister said.
Sister Kathy attended Our Lady of Holy Cross College, New Orleans; University of Dayton; and Gonzaga University, where she obtained a BA in Religious Studies and a master’s degree in Pastoral Ministry
.
Her ministries have taken her to the Office of Religious Education, New Orleans; Campus Ministry on the University of Dayton Campus; Campus Ministry Intern at Gonzaga University; Campus Minister at Barry University, Miami, FL; Christ the King University Parish, Athens, OH; Director of Catholic Campus Ministry, UW-Stout, Menomonie, WI. Sister is also the Director of Vocations for the Holy Cross Sisters, Co-director of the Holy Cross Associate Program, and a past member of the USA Provincial leadership.
Among her many interests she enjoys reading, walking, needlework and volunteering. Sister Kathy currently resides in the sisters housing on the Holy Cross Campus, Merrill, WI, and works as a receptionist at Bell Tower Residence, in addition to her other duties.
Sister Kathy added, “I have done things and been places I never would have dreamed. The support and love of my community is what made it possible for me to grow and to serve.”
