S. Kathy Lange, Pastoral Associate
By Russ Mancl
Since 2003 S. Kathy Lange has ministered to the parishioners at SS. Charles and Helena Church in Clio, Michigan, as Pastoral Associate. There’s not a typical day when it comes to serving in that position. Here’s just a sampling of how S. Kathy ministers:
- Participates in the Council of Catholic Women’s meeting and activities
- On Tuesdays she leaves with Fr. Jerry to visit those in the hospitals. They have three in their area—Hurley and McLaren in Flint, and Genesys in the southeastern corner of Genesee County. If they have people in all three, this usually takes most of the day. Sometimes they also need to visit the two hospitals in Saginaw as well.
- Tuesday evenings are usually spent in meetings—Worship Commission or Pastoral Council.
- Wednesdays are spent mostly in preparation for RCIA in the evening. Thursdays and Fridays are spent in a variety of activities, including making Communion calls to homebound parishioners, holding training sessions for new lectors and Eucharistic ministers, training new people for Children’s Liturgy of the Word, and funeral liturgy planning. In between there are funerals and wake services, coordinating with a parish volunteer and taking of meals to people home from the hospital, Adult Faith Formation Committee and Social Concerns Committee meetings, etc.
- Sister attends all three Masses on the weekend—one on Saturday evening and two on Sunday, because she feels the need to see the parishioners and be present to them.
- Monday is her day off, but she still is taking German class at Frankenmuth High School in the evening.
S. Kathy entered the Holy Cross Community on June 16, 1995, and made her Final Profession on June 15, 2003. She is a native of Big Rapids, Michigan.
