Trip to Lake Providence Nearing!

Preparations are winding down for the annual "Good Neighboring" trip to Lake Providence, Louisiana, March 20-27. The trip is sponsored in part by a grant from FAME (Formation and Ministry Enablement)of the Holy Cross Sisters. Sister Kathy Wiesneski is organizing the trip which will include eleven students from the University of Wisconsin Stout, Menomonie, WI, and individuals from other cities in Wisconsin.

Jordan and Kristen are excited about the trip which will give them the opportunity to help others and at the same time meet some of the local people in Lake Providence. Jordan is a senior in Manufacturing Engineering and Kristen is a senior in Interior Design. They are graduating this May and on top it getting married on June 17, 2011.

 

Meredith Butala

Meredith is a native of Lake Elmo, MN, currently a sophomore at UW-Stout majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management. She is looking forward to volunteering in Lake Providence for many reasons. "I have been given many blessings in my life and God has provided for me a wonderful family, education, and healthy life. Given the chance to go to Lake Providence to give back to people that have had to endure many struggles and live in impoverished conditions, I didn't have to think twice," Meredith said. She has never truly experienced poverty in the U.S. outside of the local charities, but she hopes to experience it firsthand and interact with the people, being that we are all God's children. She added, "I look forward to leaving my comfort zone and working hard in hopes of caring for the people of Lake Providence."

Kayleen Smith

Kayleen Smith is a native of Anoka, MN, and a student at UW-Stout majoring in Vocational Rehabilitation and a concentration in independent living. "It am looking forward to working in a new environment with a new group of people. I love service work," Kayleen said.

 

Melissa Nice

Melissa Nice is a native of Burlington, WI, and currently a sophomore at UW-Stout majoring in Interior Design. "I am anticipating a different lifestyle that I am used to seeing in Menomonie. I'm sure there will be sites that I never through could be real, but at the same time, I know we are bringing happiness and hope to the people of Lake Providence. I look forward to working together to make a difference," Melissa said. She has never been on a mission trip before, but despite that is eager to help those in need and start this new journey.

Kristen Ziegler

Kristen Ziegler is a sophomore from Cross Plains, WI, majoring in Interior Design. She said, "I'm pretty excited about going to Louisiana for my spring break. I love service work and just helping people out who need it. I'm looking forward to fixing up houses, painting, and just getting to know the people in Lake Providence. I can't wait."

Jessica Boone

Jessica Boone is a sophomore at UW-Stout. She hails from Marshfield, WI, and is majoring in bio technology and hopes to help people in her work.
